Ella Core v1.8 introduces Native BGP Support, a new feature that allows Ella Core to dynamically advertise subscriber IPs and receive routes from its BGP peers.
Many enterprises rely on Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) for dynamically exchanging routing information between systems in their data centers. Ella Core now natively integrates in this networking ecosystem.
Previously, administrators would need to install a BGP software like BIRD or FRR alongside Ella Core. The problem with that approach is that it requires manual synchronization. As administrators created data networks in Ella Core, they would also need to remember to manually update their BGP config.
Ella Core now embeds a BGP speaker that dynamically advertises /32 host routes as subscriber IPs are allocated, so that routers in the data center know to forward downlink traffic to Ella Core's user plane.
Ella Core can also receive routes from its BGP peers. For each peer, admins can configure an Import Prefix List, specifying which routes Ella Core will accept or reject from its peers. Accepted routes are installed into the kernel and used by Ella Core to route uplink traffic.
Configure BGP via the networking page.
