Built in the Open
Telecommunications protocols are built on open standards. We believe there should be reliable, well-tested, and modern implementations of those standards, with source that anyone can read, audit, and learn from. That’s why Ella Core’s source is available to everyone under the Business Source License 1.1, and every release converts to the permissive Apache 2.0 license four years after it is published.
We follow best practices from the broader open source world: from architecture and design to versioning and issue tracking.
How Ella Networks Started
Ella Core initially started as a side project by Guillaume Belanger in May 2024. The project was born out of both drive and frustration: a drive to build intuitive Telco systems — and a frustration with the complexity, bloat, and opacity of the status quo. Ella Networks Inc. was founded in 2025 to bring this vision to life.
