There's no serious IP Multimedia System on GitHub, so we built our own!
So far Ella Core has been Data only. No Voice, No SMS.
Last month, a potential customer reached out and requested the ability to integrate Ella Core with an external IP Multimedia System (IMS) to enable Voice calls in their private 5G networks. They weren't the first to ask and we know this gap has been a blocker for adoption. So, we said yes.
However, there is no serious open source IMS project out there that we could use to validate Ella Core's integration against. Yes, there's Kamailio and OpenSIPS, but those are frameworks that require time and expertise to properly set up, they are not finished IMS products. There are enterprise alternatives, but those are expensive, complicated, and require a multi-weeks sales process.
So we built our own!
Ella IMS is an IP Multimedia System for 4G and 5G private networks. It integrates with Ella Core or any other 3GPP compliant private core network. It's a single application that you install in one command, it works on any amd64 or arm system. Ella IMS is in Beta, give us your feedback!
Ella Core v1.20 is out now, it allows you to enable Voice and Video calls between your subscribers. Ella Core can be integrated with any 3GPP compliant IMS and has been validated against Ella IMS, Kamailio and OpenSIPS.
