Ella Core v1.17 is out today!
Many private network operators are required to support both 4G and 5G devices. And they've been telling us. Since we launched Ella Core, the number one requested feature has been 4G.
It has been almost two months since we delivered 4G. We are taking dual 4G / 5G support a step further with 4G↔5G interworking support. Ella Core subscribers can now seamlessly move between 4G and 5G coverage and maintain their IP session.
It works in both directions (4G→5G and 5G→4G) and in both device states:
- Idle: The device reselects to the other radio technology and Ella Core transfers its context.
- Active: The device hands over mid-session. Your subscriber stays on the Zoom call.
There's nothing to configure in Ella Core. The switch is automatic. You will, however, need 4G and 5G radios that support inter-RAT handover.
Ella Core is now a single binary, with an embedded UI, an embedded DB, that does 4G and 5G. This makes Ella Core extremely easy to operate in mines, farms, smart cities, campuses, military operations, and more.
