We made Ella Core because operating private 5G networks was unnecessarily complex. We made 5G an application that can be installed on commodity hardware. It's a single, lightweight binary. It just works.
Over the past year we spoke with lots of enterprises and many of them operate cellular networks that connect both 4G and 5G devices. They needed a cellular core, not a 5G-only cellular core.
We took the message, and we've been working hard over the past few months to bring you 4G.
Ella Core v1.13 is out and it supports 4G!
Most importantly, Ella Core is still the same lightweight binary that it always was. It hides most of the complexity and exposes only what operators really care about. Both 4G and 5G are enabled by default and admins can configure subscriber profiles with 4G and/or 5G access.
We validated 4G with multiple devices from Apple, Samsung, and others and the list will continue to grow.
