IPv6 has been "right around the corner" for decades now. While it has been a very slow transition, native IPv6 access to Google crossed 50% for the first time in March 2026.

We want Ella Core to facilitate companies transitioning from IPv4 to IPv6.

Ella Core v1.11 introduces end-to-end IPv6 support.

  • IPv6 Hosts: Install Ella Core on Linux hosts with IPv4, IPv6, or a combination of the two interface types.
  • IPv6 Wireless Network: Configure data networks with IPv4 or IPv6 subnets and let Ella Core provision 5G subscribers accordingly.
  • IPv6 BGP: As Ella Core provisions subscribers with IPv6 addresses, it advertises those to its IPv6 BGP peers.
  • IPv6 Policy Rules: Enforce subscriber network access patterns with IPv6 Policy Rules.
  • IPv6 Traffic Flows: Monitor and Visualize network access with IPv6 traffic flows.

Only Network Address Translation (NAT) is kept as an IPv4-only feature (that's the whole point of IPv6!)

If you intend to stick with IPv4, you've got nothing to worry about. IPv4 is here to stay.
